Black Diamond’s latest release is now available via Woolgathering Records! This new recording is a duo iteration of the band, featuring Hunter and me in improvisations recorded at Chicago’s Experimental Sound Studio. Material from the session was layered, edited, and collaged to create the pieces heard on the record. Check it out on BANDCAMP! Below is video from our record release show at Constellation Chicago on November 7th.

I’m happy to share a new series of Black Diamond duo videos, recorded in February at Transistor Chicago. We’re currently finishing up a new record of duo material to be released later this year, so stay tuned for more information about that.

During these days of quarantine, I’ve been spending a lot of time recording at home and checking out new music. I have been fascinated by minimalist (or minimalist- influenced) music lately, particularly the following:
Joshua Abrams & Natural Information Society - Mandatory Reality
Koyaanisqatsi - music by Phillip Glass
Laurie Spiegel - The Expanding Universe
I just released a new set of pieces inspired by these and by the current state of the world. Each piece has a visual component created by Marine Tempels Black. Here’s our message to accompany the work:
We have cherished our individual and collective abilities to create during this time of unanswerable questions. In searching for new routines, we have found space to experiment and pursue unfamiliar territory. Thanks to our broader community, we're encouraged and challenged to carry on, both in artistic pursuits and in the everyday. With the knowledge that our own emotions and well being are inextricably linked with others,' we share this work freely.
